SCRA announces new grant funding, academic funding, and member companies

Columbia, S.C. – Volare Boats, Cuffway, SusMaTech, Memberworks, and PSF R&D Labs received new grant funding from the South Carolina Research Authority. Clemson University received new academic grant funding. LivIQ Health, Land Takeoffs, Oral Pouch Solutions, and Petra Loan Servicing were accepted as SCRA member companies. SCRA President and CEO Bill Kirkland said, “We welcome these new member companies and congratulate those that received funding.”

All SCRA member companies receive coaching and access to SCRA’s member benefits and startup resources, can apply for grant funding, and have the potential to be considered for investment from SCRA’s investment affiliate, SC Launch Inc.

Volare Boats received a $50,000 Demonstration Grant. The Johns Island-based advanced materials and manufacturing startup has developed a vessel platform that can serve a range of maritime applications, including recreational, commercial, and industrial, thanks to its flexible design, dynamic performance, and advanced technology. The fully electric vessel will be equipped with a hull specially built for EVs to maximize efficiency and will include an integrated steering, trim, and drive system.

Cuffway received a $25,000 startup grant. The Elgin-based medical device startup is developing a real-time, automated system that continuously regulates endotracheal tube cuff pressure to reduce intubation-related injuries and improve patient outcomes. By synchronizing pressure with patient breathing and clinical data, the company is advancing a safer, more efficient standard for airway management in healthcare settings.

SusMaTech received a $25,000 startup grant. The Spartanburg-based sustainable materials startup develops bio-based, drop-in alternatives to specialty chemicals — enabling formulators to replace non-renewable additives with high-performance, low-carbon options.

Memberworks received a $25,000 startup grant. The Daniel Island-based company has developed an all-in-one membership management platform for complex nonprofits and community organizations, enabling them to manage members, programs, payments, and communications in a single system. The platform focuses on enhancing engagement and operational efficiency through customizable tools, data insights, and seamless user experiences for both staff and members.

PSF R&D Labs received a $25,000 startup grant. The Mount Pleasant-based company develops spray foam system solutions that are fully compatible with a wide range of SPF rig equipment, regardless of make or model. Built by experienced applicators, their systems balance affordability and performance to meet the needs of both independent operators and large-scale fleets.

Clemson University received five academic matching grants totaling $75,000 in funding to support the development of Clemson-owned technologies.

Land Takeoffs was accepted as an SCRA member company. The Greenville-based company provides professional site measurement, estimating, and takeoff services that help contractors, developers, and design professionals streamline project planning and improve bid accuracy. By leveraging advanced digital tools and industry expertise, the company delivers detailed quantity calculations and project data that save time, reduce errors, and enable more efficient land development and construction.

LivIQ Health was accepted as an SCRA member company. The Greenville-based health technology company is focused on improving population health through innovative diagnostic testing, biometric screenings, wellness programs, and at-home health solutions. The company combines technology-driven healthcare services with data insights to help employers, organizations, and communities improve health outcomes and increase access to care.

Oral Pouch Solutions was accepted as an SCRA member company. The Greenville-based medical device company focuses on developing innovative technologies that improve oral health and enhance patient outcomes. The company specializes in advanced oral care solutions designed to support dental professionals and address unmet needs in oral surgery, wound care, and post-procedure recovery.

Petra Loan Servicing was accepted as an SCRA member company. The Greenville-based technology-enabled loan servicing company helps private lenders streamline operations through automated payment processing, proactive borrower management, and a modern loan servicing platform. Petra combines industry expertise with purpose-built technology to help lenders scale efficiently while maintaining compliance and delivering a better borrower experience.

Grant funding is made possible, in part, by SCRA’s tax credit program, the Industry Partnership Fund, and its contributions that fuel the state’s innovation economy. Contributors to the IPF receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit, making it an easy and effective way to help one of the fastest-growing segments of the South Carolina economy. Grant funding for member companies creates a direct, positive economic impact and job creation.
